High Pressure T-Type Pneumatic Filters for Mission-Critical Service

Norman Filter Company designs and manufactures a complete line of high-pressure T-type filters for hydraulic, pneumatic, and process applications where contamination control is mission-critical. From aerospace propulsion systems to subsea oil and gas applications, our tee-type filter assemblies protect downstream pumps, valves, and regulators under demanding service conditions. Every assembly is engineered, machined, welded, and tested under one roof at our facility in Bridgeview, Illinois.

Whether you are sourcing a replacement hydraulic filter housing or need filtration for a new build, our engineering team works directly with you on a solution that meets your pressure, flow, and fluid compatibility requirements.

Operating Envelope and Configurations

Every NFC high-pressure T-type filter is built to order from a robust set of standard configurations:

  • Materials of construction: Anodized aluminum, 300 series stainless steel, and 17-4 PH (H900) stainless steel

  • Operating pressure: 0 to 20,000 PSI

  • Operating temperature: -425°F to 400°F (consult factory for service above 400°F)

  • Flow rates: 0 to 150 GPM liquid; up to 40,000 SCFM gas

  • Port sizes: 1/4" through 2"

  • Connection styles: Threaded, socket weld, or flanged

  • Element micron ratings: 0.2 µm to 1000 µm across a range of media types and collapse ratings

For applications requiring exotic alloys, including titanium, zirconium, and Nickel 200 for oxygen service, our engineering team can specify the correct metallurgy for your fluid and environment.

Indication, Bypass, and Service Options

Each high-pressure filter housing can be configured with the accessories your system demands:

  • Visual or electrical differential pressure indicators

  • Differential pressure sensing ports for remote monitoring

  • Internal bypass to maintain system operation in the event of element clogging

  • Fluid drain ports for ease of maintenance and element servicing

  • Bowl handles, direct pressure ports, and explosion-proof enclosures available on select series

AS9100D Manufacturing and On-Site Pressure Testing

Every NFC tee-type filter is machined in-house from DFARS-compliant raw bar stock. All machining, welding, inspection, and precision measurement is performed under our AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 quality system, which provides the repeatability and traceability that aerospace and defense programs require.Proof pressure testing at 1.5x operating pressure is available, with hydrostatic capability up to 120,000 PSI in our on-site test cells.

Where NFC Tee Type Filters Are in Service

Our high-pressure hydraulic filter assemblies are in service across demanding sectors, including:

  • Aerospace, including propulsion, ground support, and manned and unmanned spaceflight

  • Oil & gas, including subsea tiebacks, blowout preventers, and chemical injection

  • Oxygen and hypergolic propellant systems

  • Pharmaceutical and polymer processing

  • Process clarification

Frequently Asked Questions About High-Pressure T-Type Filters

What is the difference between a T-type filter and an inline filter?

A T-type (or tee type) filter housing routes flow through a perpendicular bowl that holds the element, allowing the element to be serviced without breaking the main flow path. Inline filters place the element directly in the flow path, which can simplify installation but requires disconnecting the line for element changes. T-type configurations are preferred in high-pressure systems where serviceability and minimal flow disruption are priorities.

Can NFC reverse-engineer or build a form, fit, and function replacement for a discontinued filter housing?

Yes. Our engineering team regularly produces qualified replacements for legacy or obsolete hydraulic filter housings used in aerospace, defense, and oil-and-gas programs. Send drawings, a sample, or the original part number along with your operating conditions, and we will scope a replacement that matches your envelope and performance requirements.

Are NFC filter elements interchangeable with elements from other manufacturers?

Many NFC housings are designed around industry-standard or MIL-SPEC element envelopes, so cross-compatibility is often possible. However, performance ratings, collapse pressure, and media compatibility vary between manufacturers. We recommend confirming element specifications with our engineering team before substituting elements in a qualified system.
